Re: Aquatic centre wins international design award, Nov. 18.
I certainly agree the Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre deserves all the design awards it has received.
However, the company that was hired to do the showers needs to step up and take responsibility for their error in not using appropriate water-resistant screws and other metal materials in the wet areas.
I noticed the rusting of the screws in the showers two weeks after the pool opened last spring. I assumed this would be addressed during the pool’s recent closure for six weeks, but it was only partially corrected.
The water sprinklers are completely rusted and are starting to discolour the ceiling surrounding them. Rust is still evident on many other materials in the shower rooms as well.
When I enquired about this with a manager at the pool, I was told that the company had been requested to correct the problem. Sadly, the company apparently said they were too busy to do it now.
In my opinion, this should be considered a priority by that company to correct and, if not, the City of Surrey should mandate it.
