With our severe lack in air quality from the Interior wildfires, the hosting of fireworks in White Rock this past weekend (Sea Fest organizers ‘going out with a bang,’ Aug. 2) must be seriously questioned.

In critical times like this, isn’t it the duty of civic leaders to pay attention to the untold number of citizens who suffer from acute lung and heart conditions, instead of pretending that it is business as usual?

Decision-makers need to apply a more honest approach to cost-accounting: Who benefits? And who pays, and why should they?

The obvious priority should be to show much greater respect for our shared air shed and to reduce suffering.
