Re: Surrey councillor defends SOGI stance, Nov. 16.
On Nov. 11, we celebrated our veterans who fought and died for us so we can have democratic societies and freedoms of choice and speech.
I’ve noticed over the years how democracies are hard to describe. For example, if you are on a city council and you vote on something, those with the most votes get their way. And this is how it works for all levels of government and many other associations and groups.
I have seen, though, that this rule of thumb has changed over the years, as fringe groups and minorities seem to rule on many occasions. It seems nowadays that if you don’t vote on demands of a minority group, or you just have a different opinion, you are ostracized – such as the Surrey city councillor. She is in one organization but she has an opinion on something else and is asked to leave – going against what our vets fought for.
It seems that, yes, you can have freedom of speech, as long as you don’t go against what I believe in.
There are so many things wrong with this world and we are so wound up in the gender identification and sex. Gay Pride parades with people very openly advertising their sexuality are more of a norm now. Why has our sexual activity become such an important part of our lives and when did it change from being a private thing between consenting people in their bedrooms? Why are so many forms of advertising and such things as music videos so orientated to sex? When did our moral values on these matters in this country – which was based on Christian ideals – become a somewhat Sodom and Gomorrah?
I’m afraid that as we continue along this course, nothing will be sacred. Will there be no limits?
I think there are still a lot of us who believe in God and what happens after we die, and that we are going to be judged on the kind of life we live and if we actually have accepted the Lord in our lives.
Yes, we can really work on rationalizing ourselves over this, but wouldn’t you rather be safe than sorry? I choose to believe in the Lord and Jesus, as many millions of people all over the world do, and it’s an incredible place to be without worry where I’m going to be when I die. It brings peace to my life.

I’ve been reading the news and am not surprised to see that democracy is, as usual, under threat – the story about Coun. Laurie Guerra being bullied online and pressured to resign from her position at AutismBC because she doesn’t agree with the SOGI curriculum, for example.
Have people seen this document? SOGI guidebook tells teachers to teach kids to refrain from calling their parents mom or dad or classmates girl or boy! Has common sense left the building? Also, they are encouraged to explore their sexual identity at a tender age like six. What six-year-old can do this? They don’t even have their food preferences figured out yet!
As a parent, it’s quite strange and disturbing. They are close to being abusive, interfering with their natures and families. My kids would be in a private school, if still in school.
Everyone has a say, but we do have different sexes by nature.
