Re: Grad camp leaves mark, May 27.

I have one question after reading the article: “Where are the parents of these kids?”

The attitude and values demonstrated by these kids starts and ends at home. Just as it is apparent that there will be no consequences for this behaviour at the school, so I am sure there will be no consequences at home either where this behaviour is condoned and too easily brushed off.

When Elgin Park Secondary’s name is dragged through the mud on the front page of the newspaper and on provincial news broadcasts, I fail to see why the school does not take action against these self-entitled kids.

Having come from the South African schooling system myself – where school spirit and respect for one’s school is front and foremost in both the public and private education system – the culprits of this behaviour would likely have been expelled, or at the very least suspended. The innocent learners would themselves demand action be taken.

Sadly, I am confident that next year at this time we will again be reading a similar article. These events will only cease when the parents take responsibility for their kids’ behaviour by ensuring there are consequences, and similarly the school protecting its reputation.
