LETTERS: Former Penticton Vee was a hero

It is with great sadness I heard about the passing of Jim Fairburn.

It is with great sadness I heard about the passing of Jim Fairburn.

I knew nothing about the Penticton Vees when I moved the city in August of 1990. In 1994 when a group of women decided to self-publish Penticton and Area Secrets & Surprises I was the one researching the story about the Vees Hockey team’s triumph for the book.

I recall meeting Jim Fairburn at his job in the Cherry Lane Shopping Centre. He was so soft spoken and gentle, I can well understand the reason for his nickname. He gave me all the information I needed to write my story for the publication in a most unassuming way. If I can add, he was a very humble gentleman. Over the years, whenever I saw him about I would always stop and chat with him, asking how he was doing. He will be missed. Rest in peace you hero!
