LETTERS: Harmony project would have addressed lack of affordable, inclusive housing

I was shocked and very saddened by the decision of the majority of Surrey council to reject the well-designed, affordable and inclusive housing project aptly named “Harmony.”

No reason was given. Over 6,000 people signed a petition in support and over 100 letters were sent to Surrey councillors. The community has spoken loud and clear that they want this much-needed asset in our community. City staff advised Surrey council to support the project after reviewing all concerns. The height was OK’d in the city plan and extensive consultation occurred with neighbours.

There is a waitlist of close to 200 people who need this affordable housing option where they live and work. Where do they go now? I urge the councillors who voted against Harmony to help these people find affordable housing on the Peninsula.
