Letters: Heading farther east, out of Maple Ridge, to shop

Lougheed Highway at risk of becoming a congested Kingsway

Editor, The News:

Re:  Businesses shifting west in Maple Ridge (The News, June 25).

I am beginning to feel like a broken record, but doesn’t it seem ironic that housing is moving eastward (west of 240th Street) and businesses are moving westward (207th to 203rd streets).

All of this development on Lougheed Highway will only encourage the road to become like Kingsway in Burnaby, with slow-moving traffic accessing businesses and constant traffic lights.

Already it is quicker for those of us in Albion and Thornhill to drive to the grocery store in Mission than it is to the ones in west Maple Ridge.

As Lougheed Hwy. continues to become more congested, I simply take my shopping dollars and head to Mission and Abbotsford as they are much easier to access – and the gas is cheaper.

It is time the district starts working towards getting some shopping here in the east.
