According to Statistics Canada 2016, White Rock’s increase in the number of empty homes was 35 per cent, the second highest in the Metro region.
This means 7.8 per cent of homes in White Rock are empty homes.
It seems like a good time for White Rock council to impose an empty-homes tax, just as Vancouver has done.
These empty homes and condos do not produce residents shopping in our stores or contributing to our community. Sadly, housing is becoming a commodity instead of a place for people to live.
The empty-homes tax in Vancouver is bringing in a large amount of revenue for Vancouver taxpayers. Why not White Rock?
