LETTERS: Let the public know

I attended Sidney’s open house on June 8 regarding density issues.

There were several display boards and one stated “Ensure contextual densification and a high standard of design (eg. new development that is in context with the surrounding’s neighborhood).”

That does not seem to be being applied. One example is on Ardwell and Resthaven. The developer and owner had the council change the zoning so they could build 17 residences where there should have only been at most 11. A 500-name petition against it was ignored.

Other examples are the condos springing up in the town core.

Speaking of trees being chopped, I inquired about compensation for the community and was told there is a fee that a developer must pay per tree and then the money is spent to plant an equal number of trees in the town.

How do we know the money is spent on replacing the number of trees?  If they are, they should let the public know so we can be grateful.

Many character homes are disappearing to accommodate 2 or 3 tall, skinny million dollar plus houses

Families can’t afford these homes.
