LETTERS: Letters incite discussion

Letter writers respond to the letters page from Oct. 28

Editor:

I am a keen reader of Peace Arch News and particularly enjoy the “letters” page, where the ranting of the uninformed can some times be a source of puzzling amusement.

The Oct. 28 edition contained letters from Don MacKay, Vin Coyne, Rudy Plante and Barry Gaudin that were refreshing in their candor and obviously written by people who knew what they were talking about when it comes to debunking popular urban myths.

Well done!

Re: Parking fees fund this ‘city’, Oct. 28 letters.

Letter-writer Don MacKay says he lives in White Rock but would rather drive to Lonsdale Quay, West Vancouver, Fort Langley, Horseshoe Bay, Squamish, Bellingham, Fairview, La Conner or Anacortes for dinner than eat on Marine Drive because of parking fees.

How much is he spending on gas to get to these places?

Perhaps he is not aware that as a resident of White Rock he can buy an annual parking pass for $43 that would pay for itself in four dinners on Marine Drive, while at the same time supporting the local economy of our beautiful City by the Sea.

I am a bit confused regarding letter-writer Don MacKay’s comment he refuses to pay $3-$6-$9 for parking.

I have only lived in White Rock for 18 months, and the first thing I did was go to city hall and buy a parking permit for $43.

I can park as many times as I want by the White Rock Restaurants for .83 cents a week.
