Letters: MLA apologizes for teacher remark

Editor, The News:

Re: Teacher positions filled, but shortage looms (The News, Feb. 1)

I would like to take the opportunity to offer my apology to the public and teachers for my flippant comment made in Neil Corbett’s article.

I should never have said that the union is never happy, which is what I was referring to when I said: “They’re never happy, are they?”

I understand that Mr. George Serra, president of the Maple Ridge Teachers Association, represents his members and was voicing the views of his members.

I am sympathetic to his concerns of not having enough teachers for September and I should not have become frustrated by the complaints he shared.

I have the utmost respect for teachers and, again, extend my apologies.

Doug Bing, MLA
