The mayors of Surrey and New Westminster wants the B.C. government to build a new Pattullo Bridge and toll it so people do not use it. Other mayors want all bridges to be tolled so we can afford to build new bridges and fewer people will use them.

If we are to believe the mayors, then school boards should be charging new students or students using new schools a learning fee, and patients using a new hospital or new equipment should be charged a medical fee.

We sure do not want our gas tax, sales tax, property tax and income tax to be used for roads, bridges, education or medical services, when there are so many more important uses for that money!

Hopefully, someday our elected officials will tell us just what those uses are. I guess spending millions of dollars to repairing the Pattullo Bridge – so it can then be torn down and replaced – could be one of those uses!
