On Monday morning, I emerged from my apartment door to find two ambulance attendants escorting an elderly, very unwell gentleman, as he shuffled very, very slowly down the third-floor hallway.
I held the elevator door open for them and one of the attendants tersely stated, “You need a bigger elevator, our bed won’t fit in this one. We do have a chair but didn’t bother to go down to get it.”
The ambulance was parked on the street at the ground level main entrance to the building, two or three minutes away, tops.
This is the service seniors can expect from our ambulance service in South Surrey, White Rock? Total disregard for what further harm they may do simply because they are too lazy to take a few minutes to go fetch a wheelchair to transport a patient in distress and force them to shuffle to the ambulance?
Perhaps some unpaid leave or further training for attendants would be in order.
It’s totally stunning! Shocking! Appalling! That there are employees of this ilk employed by the ambulance service speak volumes. We can only hope these two are the exception rather than the rule.
