Re: Gold things come to those who wait, April 20.

Congratulations to Christine Girard, the South Surrey weightlifter who finally received her due when it was announced that she won the gold medal for the women’s 63-kg class in the 2012 Olympics after the original gold and silver medal winners were disqualified for having taken banned substances.

The sad part is that she had to wait years before the disqualifications were announced, so she missed her opportunity to be on the podium at the actual Olympics. However, better late than never.

Too bad the IOC cannot test for such things on the spot or even just before the competition to eliminate the cheaters.

Christine achieved her goal the honest way by not taking banned substances. Way to go, Christine. You make us all proud to be Canadian.
