LETTERS: Second thoughts on Penticton council

I regretfully voted for a younger change on council and now I have become very disillusioned with two of their recent decisions.

I regretfully voted for a younger change on council and now I have become very disillusioned with two of their recent decisions.

Building a hotel for conventions while eliminating a ball field and precious green space is mind boggling.

Secondly, why would council want to move the present BMX track to an unsuitable location on Munson Mountain when the land beside it, which at one time was designated to be parkland, is now for sale.

Mayor Andrew Jakubeit recently commented about preserving greenspace. So why hasn’t council considered buying this property to extend the BMX track and maybe add a much needed tennis court or ball field?

When asked, the mayor would not comment on what the old BMX track would be used for, which I find hard to believe that this hasn’t already been discussed behind closed doors.

Many wonder if the city wont sell the track and rezone the property so multi-storey condos can be built.

I urge council members to venture out of city hall and see how busy the ball fields are and how many younger children are using the track while their parents play ball.

How many children will be able to use the track if it is moved to Munson Mountain?

Maybe it’s time for council to realize there is more to Penticton than spending all our tax dollars revitalizing the downtown area and that our tax dollars would be better spent on keeping our greenspace for future generations.
