LETTERS: Sooke resident writes about videotaping incident

One Sooke resident noticed that a group in their early 20's was video recording shots of her home.

Videotaping other people’s yards?

Please be aware that on July 16, if you had a garage sale going on that day, you were more likely to have your place videotaped by a woman who was with another woman and a man.

They appeared to be in their early 20’s. The one woman was carrying a dash cam/body cam with her in plain view and recording your yard. I managed to catch her doing this at my garage sale, between noon and 12:30 p.m.

I questioned her on what she was doing and she told me that she was doing this all day at garage sales, farms and other people’s yards. Her friend said that they had been doing this since 7 a.m. that day and they started out in Colwood.

I asked her to delete the footage of my yard, she showed me what she was doing, but I don’t think she did.

After she was confronted, she put the camera away in her pocket, but with the camera sticking out so it looked liked she was still recording.

After that, they left and carried on to the next garage sale or whatever they were up to for the rest of there day.

They called it an adventure.

Why are they doing this and for what reason? Who knows, so we should be alert and watch out for things like this at our own garage sales and any sales that we might go to in the future.
