Re: Underground-wire poll sparks rift, Nov. 27.

In response to Michael Brennan’s comment that an 83-year-old lady may have to move if the undergrounding of the wires happens, it would have been helpful if PAN added a note that any owner 55 and older can defer property tax until their property is sold.

They only need to have 25 per cent equity, and only accumulate one per cent interest charge, which is not even compounding.

It should have also been noted that the cost estimates from the city were extremely rough, and the proportion to be paid for by the homeowners on top of the existing taxes has yet to be determined.

The owners would be required to cover the small amount of this OCP project that falls on their property, but the majority is on city property. So the people of White Rock would expect to be treated fairly.

Ask if the owners of homes on Roper Avenue – between Finlay and Best – paid for their roadworks, including underground wires.

I agree with Mr. Brennan, and I’m not sure why the city had to send out a “non-binding petition” to do work that council already sent to city staff.
