Re: SD69 tackles LGBTQ policy (The NEWS, Nov. 30).
I genuinely feel for Ballenas principle Rudy Terpstra in his efforts to navigate our culture’s precarious political waters. (Sorry Rudy, the reason you still find yourself calling them “boys and girls” is because… that is what they are!) What a terrible position for an educator to be in.
So we have educational institutions whose goal used to be to teach children and youth how to think, now simply telling them what to think and enforcing it through shaming, ostracizing and bullying. This is an idea straight from the Soviet Union’s playbook; ‘Give us your children for their school years and we will own their minds for life.’
And what a bizarre twist to think that science, so often appealed to over the years to “prove the truth,” is now summarily discarded because it no longer fits the modern narrative despite the reality of x and y chromosomes and the demonstrable fact that there are only two genders (and you are one of them, no matter how you feel).
Being a youth today is challenging enough, but to create confusion by forcing them to question foundational truths about the very nature of reality is truly tragic.
There is of course real pain and real confusion that we experience in life, but our current cultural experiment in gender expression and sexual orientation will only multiply our problems; not because people like me oppose it, but because the very experiment itself goes against reality. Thankfully there are real answers and there is real truth that speaks to the deepest longings of the human heart and provides a clear understanding of who we are, what we are and why we are here. The LGBTQ policy is not that answer.
