Editor:
Finally the election is getting down to the central issue – the hijacking of our democracy by big businesses, with 177 companies contributing $55 million to B.C. Liberal coffers and receiving $15 billion in government contracts.
One egregious example occurred in the Houston Forest District, where two companies – West Fraser and Canfor – illegally logged nearly one million cubic meters of green timber. This timber was meant for harvest after the “bugwood” epidemic was over. This is enough timber for over 100,000 logging trucks.
Eighteen months later, sawmills were closed in Quesnel and Houston. The sawmill closure in Houston so devastated the community that the only grocery store in the town of 3500 closed. Government was mute on this criminal action.
The Liberal plan for these communities is to replant with federal money and wait 100 years. According to Post Media, Canfor had contributed $7.3 million while Western Forest Products enriched Liberal coffers by $8.8 million.
B.C. does’t need Donald Trump to devastate forest communities, the Christy Clark Liberals are managing all by themselves.
Sincerely,
Peter Nalleweg
