Lifeguards, emergency personnel quick to offer assistance

I was extremely impressed, not only with the speedy response, but also with the professional and sensitive treatment.

To the Editor,

On a recent visit to the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre, our six-year-old granddaughter sustained a head injury in the wave pool. Fortunately it wasn’t serious and she’s fine. However, I wanted to write about the experience and to thank all those involved.

As soon as she was hurt, four lifeguards and first aid personnel came running over to administer help. We then determined that EMS personnel should be called, who arrived within five minutes, checked her out and determined it wasn’t necessary to transfer her to hospital for further evaluation. I was extremely impressed, not only with the speedy response, but also with the professional and sensitive treatment given to our granddaughter.

My wife and I recently moved from Alberta and absolutely love Nanaimo, the weather, the facilities such as the aquatic centre (one of the best I have seen in Canada), outdoor activities, parks and beaches and most of all the friendliness of the people here.

Thanks again Nanaimo.
