I noted with interest the generous gift that Peninsula Co-op made to the Keating Elementary School Parent Advisory Council after a dishonest volunteer made off with about $40,000.
I asked the Co-op how much money had been given to support organizations in the Cowichan Valley and Penny Sopel, from Peninsula Co-op informed me that last year (I am not sure if this is 2014 or 2015) they gave approximately $8,500 to charities in the Cowichan Valley and $370,000 to all the other communities where they do business.
I am sure that we all thank the Co-op for their generous gift, but with at least five fueling stations here in the valley, the two per cent of their charity budget that was given to the Cowichan Valley may not be an equitable allocation. They do encourage organizations to ask them for money so I hope that all Cowichan Valley charities take note and get them to the top of your funding request list.
