Longtime resident says many Langley City issues are troubling, but Hall and Schaffer worth backing

"We have an abysmal record of voter turnout in our city, so please at least make your choices by taking the time to vote."

Editor: Over the 40-plus years we have lived in the City of Langley, I have been fairly outspoken when it came to the actions of our elected officials.

There have been many  missteps — like the overrun on the 208 Street rebuild, the virtually unused Olympic legacy stage in Douglas Park (complete with its overrun), the over-expenditure on McBurney Lane, the vacant parking lot opposite St. Joseph’s church, the bungled dirt bike park on 200 Street, the stick signage expenditure and the “transportation hub vision,” just to name a few.

Two candidates however deserve support.

Dave Hall has the courage to speak his mind and to stand up for what he believes to be the best path that this tiny city of ours  should take. He often takes a stand that is not popular with his fellow council members. For the most part, I agree with his ideas.

Ted Schaffer will make an excellent mayor. He has no other political ambition except to become mayor. He is accessible, empathetic, has council experience, is very well thought of in the community, gets things done in a quiet and effective manner and is an all-round good guy. His term as acting mayor has prepared him well for the position.

Readers may not agree with me, but we have an abysmal record of voter turnout in our city, so please at least make your choices by taking the time to vote.
