Brian Trueman feels more information is needed about a recent agreement between the Town of Ladysmith and Stz'uminus First Nation.

Re: Water, sewer will extend to Four Corners (Aug. 28, 2012)

I find it interesting that the Town of Ladysmith has entered into an agreement with the Stz’uminus First Nation to provide water and sewer service for the so-called Four Corners project.

I also found it interesting that the article was not written by the staff of the Chronicle, but the editor of a native website.

What was left out of the article?

Are the people of Ladysmith going to be subsidizing the water and sewer users of Four Corners (Ivy Green)?

Is the water going to be purchased in bulk from the Town of Ladysmith (at a lower rate)?

Will the facilities using the water be metered?

Who will be responsible for maintaining the water and sewer lines?

If there is industrial or commercial development in this area, will the town be losing businesses to this development?

If the sewage is pumped to the Ladysmith treatment station, will the developers of the Ivy Green project be paying for any necessary upgrades?

The $1.4 million is for the pipe and infrastructure; what will happen after these improvements are made?

More information is needed so the citizens of Ladysmith can properly assess this project and how it affects us.

Is our municipal tax money going to support infrastructure that is properly the responsibility of the native council?

It’s great to see co-operation between the Town of Ladysmith and the Stz’uminus First Nation, but I don’t see why the people of Ladysmith should be subsidizing developers. We certainly don’t do that for non-natives; why are we doing it for natives?

There is more than adequate water supply at Ivy Green. Remember the fountain that used to be beside the highway? Well, it is still there, only hidden from view. Why are the developers not using that?
