McGregor Says: Not much to complain about

Last weekend was perfect for photographers, painters and poets. The heavy frost backdropped by the crisp, cloudless sky created many artistic subjects, from trees to rivers and ponds. Each image was exceptionally framed by the majestic Golden Ears. You just had to be outside to experience it all.

The fact that Langley enjoys four distinct seasons is one of my reasons for living here and last year was a great example of that.

A mild spring produced more blossoms than ever, followed by a bumper crop of berries and vegetables. The seemingly endless string of hot — but not too hot — summer days was a great break from the West Coast rain and led to a spectacular show of leaves when autumn finally arrived. Then the first snow in over 400 days was just the icing on the cake.

While we were enjoying all this, other parts of the world suffered through disasters, droughts, floods and famines. Scenes like we enjoyed throughout the year are inspirational and lead to words which end up as poems or songs. We are truly blessed.

At least that’s what McGregor says.

The Place to Be

Have you walked the nature trails in spring,

And seen summer growing there?

Smelled the perfumed breeze

From the blossomed trees

And breathed the clean fresh air?

Have you ever sat on Murrayville Hill

On a warm, clear summer night,

And watched the City below

Set the valley aglow

With a blanket of twinkling light?

Have you ever walked along Michaud,

On a late fall afternoon,

When the maples there

Make you quite aware

The season’s changing soon?

Have you walked downtown on a winter night

To catch the Christmas show,

When those sidewalk trees,

With electric leaves

Casting shadows across the snow?

Have you ever stopped as you hurried around,

Or even just slowed down?

If you did, you’d see,

And agree with me,

This is a pretty nice little town.
