McGuire Lake suited for educational purposes

Letter recommends using McGuire Lake as outdoor classroom.

I find it very odd that there is so much insistence on stocking McGuire Lake for a “kid’s fishing experience” when a very short walk away are the Shuswap lakes where there are abundant fish in their natural environment. Stocking tiny McGuire Lake, which cannot support fish, strikes me as akin to stocking a barrel of water with fish. But at least a stocked barrel wouldn’t disturb turtles or other animals.

Wouldn’t it be more instructive to have school children study McGuire Lake in terms of it being a small and limited environment. They could identify and count all the plants, insects and animals that call it home. It would be a wonderful outdoor classroom experience for school children to learn that there is a  balance of different life cycles in the biology of tiny but beautiful McGuire Lake.
