Our new MLA has proven herself to be effective, compassionate

I am writing to praise our MLA Michelle Stilwell.

She’s had a lot of press lately, a fair bit of it the negative variety, from those complaining that she doesn’t make every meeting and every debate session in the area.

I can offer some insight into what she is doing — she is answering the concerns of her constituents quickly, she is actioning their concerns where possible and she is incredibly good at actually getting things done.

I wrote a letter to both Stilwell and RDN board chair Joe Stanhope regarding some concerns about a dangerous road in our community.

Both answered me back the very same day and Stilwell immediately directed my concerns to the Ministry of Transportation, who contacted me within three days.

Less than 48 hours after that phone call, the ministry had done site visits, agreed that the area lacked the necessary safety measures and are now making the necessary changes.

Stilwell’s office also contacted me to let me know the site visits had happened and the community would be a safer place for our school children who walk the road to school each day.

I was completely impressed that not only were my concerns read and considered, but actioned in less than a week.

I never thought reaching the government would so simple.
