Michelle Staples dedicated to the community

An unsuccessful candidate for Duncan council has petitioned to have Mayor Michelle Staples removed for a conflict of interest. Her conflict, he claims, is that Mayor Michelle has supported and backed many local community organizations and helped lobby the government (using her position as mayor) to bring $14 million in added funding to our community.

This is a woman who, besides her involvement with Duncan city council duties, plays a role in the boards for Social Planning Cowichan, Cowichan Housing Association, the Canadian Mental Health Association, and the Cowichan Green Community. My sister Lynne told us at a family dinner recently that Michelle Staples was also involved with hands-on Cowichan River clean-up and used needle gathering along the river and local wilderness areas.

My 92-year-old father’s response to Mark Anderson is that “instead of attempting to oppose the successful efforts of our community conscious mayor he might like to say something of his own community participation.” This mayor of Duncan, Michelle Staples, spends pretty well every minute of every day involved in efforts to raise the quality of community life in this great and unique small town of ours.
