MLA should try to live on $900/month

I absolutely agree with letter writer Don Heppner  (letter to the editor, The NEWS, Oct. 18).

MLA Michelle Stilwell should be ashamed and embarrassed by what her government has done for the disabled, especially after her statement: “I’ve lived it. I’ve been there. I’ve been on income assistance, so don’t tell me I don’t understand, because I do.”(The Victoria Times-Colonist, March 5).

You would think that if she really understands, she would be making every effort to make things even a little better for these people.

The raise in disability rates since she took office is negligible, barely enough to make a difference, not to mention the whole bus pass fiasco.
Stilwell should try living on a little over $900 a month herself and see how that feels. I am not disabled myself, but I know a lot of people who are struggling and not making ends meet.

Stilwell needs a serious wake-up call.
