Money was needed here

Mr. Alex Pietralla in his recent column on the HST has a very narrow view of what was happening.

Dear Sir:

Mr. Alex Pietralla in his recent column on the HST has a very narrow view of what was happening.

This was a huge transfer of taxation from the corporations to the average working person or pensioner, etc.

If there are approximately 20,000 people working in the Skeena region it means that somewhere between $3-$10 million dollars was taken from our pockets and given to the government.

This money could have been spent in the local economy instead of increasing the bottom lines for the large corporations and their shareholders.

This was initially touted as a revenue neutral and now we know that this statement was pure fabrication.

I believe up to 10 million dollars spent here in Kitimat, Terrace and Prince Rupert would be far more desirable than this money going to Victoria.

If you own a small business in this area I cannot help but think you should agree.
