I read that Qualicum Beach is considering a proposal to cover the rocks along the waterfront with sand along the walkway as far in as the tide line.
This would be a disaster. Anyone who knows the ocean and its strength would also know that high tides would very quickly remove the sand and carry it away from the shore, putting things back where nature wanted them, cause muddy water for weeks and disrupting things that should be left alone.
This in turn would cover all the natural beach sand, kill the eel grass and smother numerous creatures that live just below the surface.
Spending $150,000 on this ill-thought-out plan would be lunacy. Can we not learn from the money wasted on the Parksville Beach spreading of rocks and gravel on the smooth natural sand?
Think before you leap. If, on the other hand, this is a belated April Fools Day joke, good one; you got me.
