Re: Seven stories too high for campus of care (Letters, July 11)
I agree with the writer of the Saanich News letter regarding the largest building for the Mount View Heights development being seven storeys. Baptist Housing should think about the neighborhoods they are putting these developments in.
We not only have we lost our green space we have also lost our on-street parking and it appears no one gave any thought to the traffic problems that may arise because of this major building project.
We are not only getting a seven-storey building for a residential care facility with an attached six-storey building beside it for housing like the one proposed for Oak Bay. So far we have a Cool Aid housing building, which is three storeys, a low-cost housing building for seniors that is four storeys, an affordable family housing building at three storeys, and a proposed housing or office building. This all on a 3.3-hectare piece of land.
The people of Oak Bay were against one building – try six buildings and one seven storeys high. But don’t complain – council claims it’s for the common good.
I am not against housing for seniors and for low income families, but I think this is a bit too much for this Saanich neighbourhood and even though there was plenty of objection to this proposal the VIHA/Baptist/CRHD went ahead and made no changes to the height of these buildings.
