On Feb. 1, a friend and I were walking back home along 152 Street heading towards 24 Avenue from Semiahmoo Mall, when we were suddenly struck from behind by a motorized scooter.
I was thrown to the ground and she was hit on the right leg and foot.
A fire marshall happened to be coming out of the complex where the accident occurred.
We are wondering what procedures are in place for owners of these vehicles? The sidewalk obviously is shared by pedestrians and mobility scooters alike. However, it would appear that some scooter owners are not very responsible.
What requirements are in place for anyone who purchases one – particularly if the person is handicapped slightly, mentally or physically, such as one hand not functioning properly. Are they still allowed to “drive” a mobility scooter? Does anyone know?
