MP Duncan not the first to appear to be aloof

Dear editor,

I appreciated Friday's editorial in which you suggest that Mr. Duncan is avoiding contact from the public and the media.

Dear editor,

I appreciated Friday’s editorial in which you suggest that Mr. Duncan is avoiding contact from the public and the media.

However, I wish to point out that during Miss Bell’s time in Parliament, she too was criticized in the local press for being difficult to reach.

In addition, although I was too young to remember him, I have heard complaints that Mr. Gilmour, MP for Comox — Alberni before the Comox Valley was joined to the new Vancouver Island North district, was similarly inapproachable.

In other words, Mr. Duncan’s seeming ‘aloofness,’ real or imagined, is not unique to him. In fact, his extra responsibilities as Aboriginal Affairs Minister may make him less to blame than his predecessors.
