I wish to give a grand hurrah to Colin Mayes for holding a forum on religious freedom in May and for his column on religious freedom.
I wish members of the Law Society of B.C. could have read Mr Mayes’ column before they voted to reject Trinity Western University’s law school.
Canada’s John Humphrey played a major role in drafting the United Nations’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Article 18 reads: “Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.”
This right is no longer sacrosanct. Religious freedom is now in need of our active protection.
