My Saanich property taxes have increased by 34.4 per cent over the last five years.
During two of those years my pay was frozen, with an increase of about five per cent on the remaining three. I haven’t done any major improvements to my modest 1979-built Gordon Head home.
I contacted Saanich but my complaints fell on deaf ears. I now have to look forward to a several hundred dollar per year rise in taxes to pay for sewage treatment that I wasn’t asked to approve and that science tells me we don’t need.
Saanich has basically mandated a lower standard of living for my family with its lack of fiscal control and misguided priorities.
I wonder if amalgamation is the answer. Surely the model we have is not sustainable.
