A year ago I visited the Greater Vernon Museum for the first time. I expected to see the usual old stuff, which I did.
I saw other things I didn’t expect and was interested in like the bottled water display showing the good and bad of each company that sells them.
Also, there was a comic book section and other things like the old clock that I had read about in the paper.
I enjoyed my time there with the staff, who were very helpful and knowledgeable.
They also let me know about some upcoming lectures which I didn’t expect them to have.
The first one I attended was about bugs.
It’s held in a small room which seats about 30 people.
This lecture had mostly children attending and I thought I was out of place, but it turned out that I learned a lot and it helped me get over my long-time fear of spiders.
The next one I went to was on how to make cheese, which we all did, and it was good. It was good enough to make it at home which I still do.
Recently, I went to a lecture on bees.
This was very informative and the small room was packed as were the other shows.
So what I’m trying to say is that the museum isn’t just a place to see old stuff.
Once, maybe twice, but it’s for people to get together and learn about all kinds of interesting things.
It’s not just a place to see but a place to be.
