To Nancy Whelan’s eloquent plea for maintaining as natural a beach as possible in “On the beach in Qualicum (The News, March 8)” I would just like to add that this beach (and Parksville’s beach) is also rare.
We have plenty of rocky beaches and craggy shorelines along our west coast, but very few sandy beaches.
It would be extreme folly to do anything that would put that rare ecosystem at risk or detract from its natural beauty.
At this point our only alterations on the nearshore should be in the form of restoration — as was done by the town near the Shady Rest.
