Editor, The Times:

To all people of the North Thompson Valley – we invite you all to come celebrate National Aboriginal day with us on Saturday, June 18, noon until 6 p.m. at the Elks Hall in Clearwater.

Did you know that National Aboriginal Day was first proclaimed by the Governor General of Canada in 1996 and that June 21 of every year has become a day in the Canadian calendar that presents the Aboriginal peoples with a opportunity to express great pride in their rich, diverse cultures with their families, neighbors, friends, and visitors?

This year, in honor of National Aboriginal Day, we are will have a family celebration at the Clearwater Elks hall. Aboriginal Engagement Success By 6 along with the North Thompson Aboriginal Sharing Centre and Yellowhead Community Services will host this family event.

The opening ceremony will be at 1 p.m. There will be craft/art tables, activities for children, face-painting, a concession, music, entertainment, Lahal (stick games), First Nations displays, a Métis area, local dignitaries (including Dr. Terry Lake, and so much more.

Special guest will be Beverly Lambert, a Métis cultural facilitator from Surrey, B.C.

This drug and alcohol free event will be open to all people, all nations and all ages. Everyone will be welcome.

For more information, contact: Cindy, 250-674-2939; Cheryl, 250-674 3260; or Sharing Center, 250-674-3703.

Don’t forget that the Elks will serve their delicious pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. and Clearwater Farmers Market will happen from 9 a.m. until noon. Some of the market vendors will be staying well into the afternoon.
