The loss of re-located rabbits in Ladner Harbour could be due to them dying of old age.

Re: “Rabbit relocation wraps up,” The Leader, March 27.

Tsawwassen’s Ursula Easterbrook says she has heard reports from other residents who claim to regularly see dead rabbits at the side of the walking path.

Although rabbits are great breeders, producing anywhere from six to 12 babies per litter four times a year, their life expectancy is only five to seven years.

On the prairies, where I was born, once the wild population of rabbits became unsustainable, a disease would wipe most of them out, and the cycle would start all over again.

The loss of rabbits in Ladner Harbour could be due to them dying of old age, and being “fixed,” cannot reproduce. A veterinarian could confirm this.
