My comments refer to your article on the City of Nelson’s wood policy.
It is not appropriate for the City of Nelson to adopt a wood purchasing policy based on vague and ever changing words like “sustainable.” The City should have a purchasing policy for all services and products based on the best value for taxpayer dollars and buying locally where they can.
The City should be dedicated to providing a limited number of services for the benefit of all it’s residents. It should not select against some residents because they don’t measure up to the “higher ethics” of some councillors. If they are good enough to collect taxes from they should be good enough to supply services and products to the City.
I personally would be happy to see council focus their attention on maintaining City services, watch expenditures and if they want to get involved in environmental campaigns do that on their own time and with their own money.
