New smart meters simply a tax grab

B.C. Hydro’s coffers are empty and it needs money to expand, so its political masters are going to increase its revenue by installing smart meters.

Re: Smart meters make sense, Opinion, Aug. 13.

Smart meters are a tax grab pure and simple.  Victoria has used B.C. Hydro as a  milk cow and extracts money from it by charging water rental fees; forcing it to pay dividends to the provincial government; and charging capital fees to the  company.

B.C. Hydro’s coffers are empty and it needs money to expand, so Hydro’s  political masters  are  going  to increase its  revenue by  installing smart meters,  which will ‘time’ usage of  power and charge double  the  rate for  power  used  between 6 a.m. and about 11 a.m.

Who pays this  indirect taxation  in the  end? We all do.
