To the editor:
I have been a volunteer at the Salvation Army Thrift Store for quite a few years.
This morning I saw the same sight that I have seen so many times over the years. I never become used to it though. Each time I become more sickened, disgusted.
The back of the store right up to the door is totally cluttered with donations that were left overnight and ripped open, along with old furniture that was also dropped off.
At both doors there are signs posted to not drop off your donations when there is no one at the door to accept them. And do not drop them off at night when no one is there.
Your donations are very important to us and certainly are appreciated and are used to help the less fortunate.
If your donations are good enough to be donated to a thrift store, then you should make the effort to get them to the store during work hours. If it is just garbage don’t drop it off at night when no one can see you. Take it to the dump yourself.
Yes the mess left from these drop offs in the middle of the night are disgusting and yes, we can blame the homeless for digging through everything looking for whatever they are looking for, but it is the fine citizens of Kelowna who are making their drop offs in the middle of the night that are the ones to blame.
These opinions are all totally mine—a volunteer.
We could always use more volunteers.
