No empathy

I was interested to read your front page article on Mike Hicks’ hurt feelings on the change of a voting structure.

A few months ago, Mike Hicks chaired a meeting of our local water commitee. Previously, votes had been cast as one vote per property. Knowing this, my partner and I decided that only one of us need attend the meeting.

When the vote for the commitee was called, Hicks was asked who could vote. He decided without consultation that everyone present was eligible. “You are all residents?”   Apparently, a few dozen grunts and nods was sufficient to answer this question.

I challenged this and was told that the majority was in favour of his decision. I objected to his bullying and apparently this has remained in his memory of how to reply to opposition.

Do I have any any empathy for his current feelings?  Well, no.
