No mayor and no byelection

If a community does not need a mayor for one-third of their term, what value is a mayor?

Editor: I find it very disconcerning that former Langley City mayor Peter Fassbender has left us two options: No mayor until November 2014, or a byelection costing up to $100,000.

If a community does not need a mayor for one-third of their term, what value is a mayor? Too many elected community officials bail on their term to advance their careers, thus engaging more in self-service than public service.

They leave behind a whopping byelection fee or a vacated seat. Why don’t these people complete their commitment and seek a new position on their own time and money?

How much time and salary was paid by Langley City to Fassbender to seek a new lifestyle for himself, and in another community. Be warned Surrey-Fleetwood,  there is a pickpocket in your town.
