No room for posturing

Re: City Council expense accounts still debated, Observer, March 4.

The positive raised out of this unfortunate accusation is my opportunity to let you know what I actually do at these conferences.

This past year  some of the things that I was involved with (as were many of my colleagues) included: meeting with the solicitor general to ask for support to our communities that are  dealing with the high social, economic and environmental costs of grow-op operations, increased resources needed for unsolved homicides, met with Senator Nancy Green Raine about the need to adjust the Fisheries Act, met with several staff at the provincial level around the environmental assessment requirements, several meetings with the Ministry of Healthy Living and Sport around community and business accessibility strategies, pitched to the northern caucus the idea of a province wide community accessible excellence award to name a few.

I learned during my first term on city council, under teams such as Mary Glassford, that we need to be tenacious and to ensure that we are always in front of decision makers.

Director Glassford used this method with the North Cariboo Community Campus and we were successful with getting the money.

City council did this with the West Quesnel Land Stability and were successful with getting $3.14 million.

Finally, I know that myself and a few of my colleagues are doing the same with the Multi-Centre and the truck route but we need help from the entire team.

I am proud of the work we are doing, I am proud of the community of Quesnel and I want good things for the community.

There is no room for political posturing in this.
