Mr. Akbal Mund, my husband and I have lived in Armstrong almost 15 years and prior to that we lived in the Lower Mainland.
We would travel up here to Vernon for hockey events and stay at the Silver Star RV Park located at Stickle Road and Highway 97. This was back in the 1990’s and at that time there was no way I would even attempt to cross that highway as a pedestrian nor try to cross with a vehicle and to this day would still not try doing so.
This intersection is in dire need of traffic signals before more accidents and deaths take place. There is no question about it.
The unfortunate thing about all of this is that our Minister of Transportation Todd Stone, and you along with MLA Eric Foster are not listening to the taxpayers of this highway that see the close calls on a daily basis at Stickle Road and Hwy 97.
We travel a lot through Kamloops on Hwy 1 and on that highway there are many stops with the use of traffic signals and it works very well. We have rarely ever seen an accident along that stretch whether it be early morning rush hour or heavy holiday traffic coming or going. Those signals happen to slow traffic down which is what is needed as there are many mini malls and large companies along that stretch as well as the trains going through. This is needed at Stickle Road and Hwy 97 in Vernon.
Traffic lights are needed at Stickle Road, not moving the traffic such as 18 wheelers, large RV vehicles, etc. through residential areas. Think about all those businesses in this particular area that will be affected if the flow of traffic starts going through the residential area and then there is Anderson Way that won’t be able to handle all those big transport trucks trying to turn from Anderson Way to 48th Ave to get back to Hwy 97 (32nd St.).
It is time for you all to really start listening to us that pay your salary.
Karen & John Phillipson, Armstrong
