Some say the location of a B.C. correctional facility (remand centre) will cause us to become known as a prison town.
Here is a list of the current cities in B.C. with a correctional facility in them: Fraser Regional Centre (Maple Ridge); Kamloops; Prince George; Vancouver Island (Saanich); North Fraser Pre-Trial (Port Coquitlam); Surrey Pre-Trial; Alouette River (Haney); Ford Mountain (Chilliwack); and Nanaimo.
You’ve lived in B.C. for a while and are familiar with the above cities. Have you ever thought of those cities as a prison town? They also rely on tourism.
Based on the above, I suggest the notion that we will be known as a prison town is bogus. Think about it.
