With trepidation I write to warn the many seniors, who travel infrequently, of an incident that took place in Chilliwack just before Christmas.
We had travelled to be with family. At check-in, a lady in her mid-80s arrived just as we did. I stood back while she registered. She had a reservation and had a history with the motel. The clerk asked for her credit card. She did not have one, suggesting she would pay in cash in advance. The clerk would not accept her pre-payment, saying that regardless of her history with the motel, she would not allow her to stay without a credit card. It was Christmas, she had nowhere to go.
To say I was shocked would be an understatement. I stepped forward and asked the clerk what could I do to make this happen? Her cold reply was: “she has no credit card.” I replied: “I do, put her room on my card.”
The lady was from the Island, I have never seen her before and it’s likely I never will again. Instantly, she handed me her cash to pay for her room.
God works in many ways. I was merely placed in the right place at the right moment in time.
