Re: Nurse practitioner helps fill need in Chilcotin:
This is a great story! It’s wonderful to read about the difference Sandra and Lorrie are making to healthcare in the Chilcotin.
They’re following in the historic footsteps of Chilcotin nurses who have been providing excellent primary care to folks in the Chilcotin for decades, and they’re pioneering the new model of nurse practitioners in B.C.
This has been a long time in coming. I worked as a nurse providing primary care in Tatla Lake in 1997.
Way back in 1999 (or 2000?) the Tribune published a letter I wrote suggesting it was time to recognize nurse practitioners in B.C. — and it’s so great to see that we’re finally getting there, thanks to the hard work and excellent primary skills of nurse practitioners like Sandra and Lorrie.
The Chilcotin is showing the rest of the province its pioneering spirit in welcoming these nurse practitioners!
