Officer’s use-of-force choice sends wrong message to young people

Re: Victoria officer vilified in YouTube video won’t be charged (News, Feb. 16)

Uses of force may be necessary for police officers in subduing unruly prisoners, but kicking should not be one of them. It is a bad example for young people who now almost always kick when involved in a fight, often to the head, which leads many times to brain injury.

What happened to the age-old maxim: you never kick a man when he’s down?
